Global Insights: A Moment With Professor Che-Chung Wang
Mingcun Lu, our product specialist in China, recently sat down for an interview with Dr. Che-Chung Wang, Ph.D., a highly respected professor for Shih-Chien University’s Department of Industrial Design. Professor Wang, a recent adopter of solidThinking software, shared his insights into the industry and feedback about solidThinking. He observed that, in the industrial design field today, most senior designers still prefer starting their designs from a sketch, which is the traditional method in Taiwan. “But in real-world projects, designers can’t go back to sketch and recreate a model on the spot when a customer requests modifications,” said Professor Wang. “solidThinking can help designers make any change and generate new rendering results immediately.”
“CAE technology also provides a new method for designers to consider construction in concept design, and this is a unique function provided by solidThinking,” added the professor. “Most importantly solidThinking can be quickly adopted by anyone, even non-professional users. solidThinking has a good interface, making it a suitable tool for designers.”
As a result of his evaluation, Professor Wang has brought solidThinking into his course as his primary teaching software—not only because it runs both on Windows and Mac, he said, but also because it can generate perfect models for CAM without any breaks.

- March 19-24, Luca Frattari, business development manager promoting Altair's technology and innovation in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), attended smartgeometry 2012 at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy N.Y., where the global community of innovators and pioneers gathered to discuss advancements in architecture, design and engineering.
 - March 25 and April 15: Mingcun Lu and team attended the Shandong Province Vocational Student Skills Competition in Jinan, Shandong, China, where she delivered a presentation introducing solidThinking to the many teachers in attendance.
 - March 30-31 and April 13-14: Darren Chilton and Craig Mackiewicz from solidThinking’s Troy, Mich., team exhibited at the IDSA Design Dialogue 2012 Conferences in Detroit and Chicago, where they interacted with students attending from a variety of regions in the U.S.
